Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha was officially established in 1955 in Jamalpur, Bihar, India. P.R. Sarkar was at that time working as a railway official in the Indian Railways. At that time he had only a handful of spiritual students whom he taught individually. However, according to one account, the establishment of Ananda Marga was not always Sarkar's intention.
